Budapest among most educated European cities

Where in Europe do you think the highest number of university graduates can be found? Surprisingly, it’s not in Finland or the United Kingdom. Instead, an Eastern European region takes the top spot for the highest concentration of residents with university degrees. According to Eurostat, Europe’s statistical agency, the Sostinės region in Lithuania, which includes the area around the capital city of Vilnius, boasts the highest percentage of university-educated individuals in all of Europe, as reported by Erudera.com and Daily News Hungary. Besides Lituania, Poland and Hungary also on the top 10 list.

The complete list is:

  1. Sostinės Region, Lithuania — 62.1% of residents aged 25-64 attained higher education
  2. Walloon Brabant, Belgium — 60.7%
  3. Stockholm, Sweden — 57.5%
  4. Warsaw, Poland — 57%
  5. Eastern and Midland, Ireland — 57%
  6. Pais Vasco, Spain — 56.4%
  7. Utrecht, Netherlands — 56.1%
  8. Budapest, Hungary — 55.9%
  9. Zurich, Switzerland — 55.5%
  10. Île-de-France, France — 55%

No wonder higher education is of such a high level in Hungary- attaining a university degree is achievable and very much expected here, as in many Eastern-European countries.
