Renovations finished at the main building of University of Dunaújváros

The main building of University of Dunaújváros has been under renovation for the past 2 years. This early January, the renovated main building has been inaugurated. The ceremonial event on Tuesday was attended a number of notable figures in the Hungarian higher education sector, such as Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó, State Secretary Veronika Varga-Bajusz responsible for higher education, vocational and adult education, and youth at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation.

The renovation of the main building, incorporating modern energy solutions, made it suitable to accommodate nearly eight hundred students. This project is a significant element of the multi-hundred-billion-forint higher education developments taking place across the country, now realized in Dunaújváros, said the Minister of Culture at the inauguration ceremony.

“Today, being a university student in Hungary is not only good but also trendy,” said Minister Hankó, adding that we can simultaneously be proud of universities climbing international rankings and regional excellences like the University of Dunaújváros.

The renovation of the main building was a modernization to meet 21st-century energy and control technology requirements, a “facelift” that the building had not undergone in decades, said János Süli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation operating the university, adding that there are still buildings on the Dunaújváros campus (university center) awaiting modernization.

The University of Dunaújváros has become a prominent player in Hungarian technical higher education over the past 25 years, said Rector István András in his welcome speech. Lajos Mészáros, Member of Parliament for the region, emphasized that it is a great joy that the government considered it an important task to support an investment in Dunaújváros that serves the development of national cultural assets, the education of future generations, teaching, the preservation of the built environment, and environmentally conscious development.

The complete architectural, mechanical, electrical, and IT renovation of the university’s main building, along with modern thermal insulation, aligns with these goals. Community spaces, classrooms, and a gymnasium were renewed during the investment. Thanks to its excellent predecessors, the institution has a magnificent past, and due to the excellence of those working here, it has a hopeful and success-entitled future, said Lajos Mészáros.
