Alternative health insurance solutions

As an EU citizen you can ask your local authority to provide you with the European Health Insurance card. It is a free card that gives you access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 27 EU countries.

Hungarian State Health Insurance

known as TAJ card
EEA citizens residing in Hungary for longer than a year and do not have a valid European Health Insurance Card can apply for state health insurance.

Other private health insurance

If you decide to get yourself an insurance at another private health insurance company, make sure that you don’t choose the cheapest insurance package since the Immigration Office might reject to accept it when you apply for visa or try to extend your residence permit.
